Materials:

  • 1/2 cup of baking soda
  • 1/2 cup of white vinegar
  • coarse salt
  • hot water

Instructions:

Step 1:

Pour boiling hot water down your drain. You can keep your hot water going if it’s really hot but you can also boil water in a kettle. Once boiling, pour it into your drain, so the grease will not harden. Remember that it is not advisable to run the oil down the drain as it will get stuck to the pipes. Just throw the grease into the trash.

Step 2:

Put 2 and 1/2 cups of baking soda into your drain.

Step 3:

Pour half a cup of white vinegar. Dissolve the baking soda using white vinegar. You will hear a chemical reaction. This will remove the grease on your drain. Let it sit for 10 minutes. You can also use half a cup of vinegar and 1/2 cup of coarse salt before the vinegar.

Step 4:

Pour 4 to 6 cups of hot water down your drain. If your tap water is hot enough, you can leave it running for about 5 minutes. Try not to use the sink for a little bit to a few hours after this.

Note: make sure you are not doing this after a chemical method. The baking soda and vinegar can produce a bad reaction with the chemicals.
