It’s more fun to make large pattern quilt pieces once in a while as this heartstrings quilt from Missouri Star on Youtube. This quilt has a delicate and sweet design – perfect for gifting or if you like this kind of pattern. It’s super fun to make, and although it may look complex, it’s beginner-friendly. Watch the video tutorial below to learn the step-by-step instructions.
Begin by making your center strip. Cut your top background strip to 2 & 1/2″ x 15 & 1/2″, print fabric to 32 & 1/2″, and bottom piece to 3 & 1/2″. Sew them together with a 1/4″ seam allowance, then press the back. After sewing each strip piece, it would be helpful to have a design area to hang or lay them to make it easier to look at the pattern. After this, start building one half of the heart. Cut your top piece to 13 & 1/2″, center to 32 & 1/2″, and bottom to 5 & 1/2″. Sew them together and press.

After making a few of these, the print strip size is going to change. It will now measure 28 & 1/2″, the top background is 5 & 1/2″, and the bottom is 17 & 1/2″. Sew them together, press then lay them together with the other strip sets. Next, the top measures 7 & 1/2″, print is 24 & 1/2″, and the bottom is 19 & 1/2″. Next strip, the top measures 9 & 1/2″, the print is 20 & 1/2, and the bottom is 21 & 1/2″. Second to last measures 11 & 1/2 on top, 16 & 1/2 on the print, and 23 & 1/2″ on the bottom. Lastly, the top measures 25 & 1/2″, the print is 12 & 1/2″, and the bottom is 13 & 1/2″. (The other half of the heart has the same measurements). Finish the two sides of the quilt with a 50 & 1/2″ background strip. Sew all of these together one by one to make the whole quilt.
