You’ll surely love this block as it comes together quickly. You can definitely finish this quilt in a day. The block is made by sewing a charm pack on top of a layer cake and then cutting it into four. Four pieces from different blocks are sewn together to create this lovely pattern. Easy Five and Dime Quilt Materials

  • a pack of layer cake
  • a pack of a charm pack

How to Make Five and Dime Quilt

Step 1:

Get one light layer cake square and one dark charm square and fold them in half twice to find the center. Place the charm square right side up, then the layer cake square on top right side up. Pin it in place. Sew with a 1/8″ inch seam allowance from the inside of the pinked edge. Start in the center of one side and stitch all the way around.

Step 2:

Cut the block in half horizontally and vertically. You’ll have a four-patch.

Step 3:

Repeat steps 1 and 2 for the remaining squares. Make sure the layer cake and charm square are in contrasting colors.

Step 4:

Take 2 dark and 2 light unit squares and arrange them just like a four-patch. See the photo below for reference. Sew them in pairs first with a 1/4″ seam allowance. Once done, sew them together to make the five and dime quilt block. Set the seams and press it flat.

Sew 6 blocks in a row, make sure not to put the same fabrics together. Be sure to nest the seams.
