You will only need a fat eight bundle for this fat eight fruitcake quilt project from Fat Quarter Shop on Youtube! This is a perfect project, especially if you’re looking for an easy quilt to pass some time or just want to make a brand-new quilt. It’s beginner-friendly, simple to make, and has a gorgeous pattern. Watch the video tutorial below to learn the step-by-step instructions.
First, take a fabric B square and a fabric G square. Draw a line from corner to corner on the wrong side of the fabric G square, then place it on the top right corner of fabric B square. Stitch directly on the line, trim a quarter inch away from your stitch line, and press. This will be your fruit unit. Moving on to the next unit, take a fabric A rectangle, and a fabric G square that has a diagonal line drawn. Put it on the bottom left, stitch directly on the line, trim a quarter inch away, and press. This will be your cake unit. Now, take your fruit unit, a fabric E square, press those together, then add it to your cake unit. You’re going to have four of these for each block.

Next, put together fabric D and fabric C rectangles, use a quarter-inch seam in sewing, then press. After this, take a ruler, line up the seam with the line on the ruler, and cut. Flip it around and sub-cut this to make 2″ strips. From each of these, you’re going to make eight rectangles and you’re going to use four of these for each block. (This will be your slice units.) To put your block together, put four fruitcake units on each corner, four slice units in between fruitcake units around (make sure the square is in the center), and put your fabric F in the center. Sew them together. Make 30 pieces of this block for each quilt, then put them in rows of 5 x 6. Assemble your quilt center, add your side borders, press, then add your top and bottom borders and press again.
