We can all agree that quilting is an absolutely fantastic hobby, making a project from scratch, watching it slowly come into shape, and seeing the final look is all worth the time that it took to complete. Piecing small fabrics together to make a larger block, then those blocks into an even larger one is simply fun to do that you can lose track of time, and figuring out a lot of ways to assemble them together is always my favorite part of quilting. Here’s one of my favorite projects of all time by Jordan Fabrics on YouTube that you should also try!

Materials:

  • Jelly roll strips
  • Accent fabric
  • Background fabric
  • Border fabric, inner
  • Border fabric, outer
  • Backing fabric
  • Binding fabric
  • Ruler
  • Scissors or rotary cutter and a cutting mat
  • Needle and thread
  • Iron, for pressing
  • Sewing machine
  • Pattern (Click here to download the pattern)

Directions:

Step 1

Pick out the strips that you want to use and are needed, then cut all of your fabric to size, and start making blocks 1 and 2. Start with the 1st block, pick the fabric cuts that you need, then sew the pieces together making sure to lay them together with the right sides facing every addition, and finger press them open with the seams going towards the darker fabric. Once done piecing the block, iron it flatly, then proceed to make the 2nd block using the same process as you did with the 1st block, and once done, iron it flatly as well.

Step 2

Now, continue to turn the remaining fabric pieces into 2 kinds of blocks, then once done, lay out all of the blocks on a flat surface, and assemble them as shown in the video and as instructed in the pattern guide. Sew the blocks one at a time making sure to lay them together with their right sides facing first, then press them open, and continue to sew them per row. After sewing each row, start sewing the rows to each other making sure to press every now and then, and add the border, binding, and backing fabric, then quilt however you want.
