Sometimes, we just want an easy project that we can finish right away. If you are looking for one, try this treasure box quilt by Missouri Star. It’s a beginner-friendly pattern that doesn’t involve any complicated processes. You can easily follow the steps without much effort! I had fun making this for a friend, and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it as well.

For this pattern, you will be making two blocks! The first block is the square in a square, and the second one is a chevron block. You might already be familiar with those blocks. If that’s the case, this project will be easier for you. To create the patterns, you need to make half-square triangles from a pack of 5″ colored squares and a pack of 5″ background squares. Take one colored and one background 5″ square. Place them right sides together and sew all the way around the outside edge with 1/4″ seam allowance. Once done, cut in half diagonally from corner to corner on both directions. Trim the triangles into 3″ squares. Press the seams, open, and press toward the dark side. Now you have half square triangles. repeat with your other squares.
Make the square in a square block. Get four of the half-square triangles of the same fabric and arrange them in a four patch with the color sides in the center. Sew them in rows first, press, and sew to make the block. You need 24 pieces of this block.
Make the chevron block. Get four of the half-square triangles that you made using a different color. Arrange the first two so the color sides meet in the center, then arrange the last two with the white sides meeting in the middle. Sew them together to make the block. You need 18 pieces of this block.
For the first row, arrange 6 of the chevron blocks. Make sure they are going in the same direction. For the second row, arrange 6 of the square in a square blocks. Repeat with the other rows. Sew the rows together to make the quilt.
