This pattern starts with 2 units; each unit has three strips. Next, the two units are sewn together to make a tube. The tube is then cut into triangles. Each triangle is opened and pressed flat into a square. Four squares are sewn together in a four patch to get the summer squares block. Watch the video below for full instructions.
Note: the block measures 6 1/2″
Place a 1 1/2″ white strip between 2 dark 2 1/2″ print strips, then sew them together. Next, place a 1 1/2″ black strip between 2 light 2 1/2″ print strips, then sew them together. Press them flat.
Place the two units on top of each other right sides together. Sew on both sides to make a tube.
Lay the slotted trimmer on the stitch line. Cut on both sides. Flip your ruler, lay it on the stitch line again, and cut it on one side. Repeat with the other sides.
You can also use your regular ruler, make sure it is at a 45-degree angle.
Press each block open.
Get four blocks and arrange them in a big square just like in the photo below. Sew them together. Make sure the 1 1/2 strips have the same color.
