Materials:

  • Charm pack
  • Solid white fabric
  • Solid black fabric
  • Scissors or rotary cutter and a cutting mat
  • Ruler
  • Needle and thread
  • Iron, for pressing
  • Sewing machine

Directions:

Step 1

Cut the white fabric into 96 5×2″ strips and 48 2″ squares, then the black fabric into 96 2×6½” strips and 49 2″ squares. Sew half the stack of the white strip along one side of each charm square, then press the seams open, and sew together the black square on top of the shorter side of the remaining white strips. Press the seams open, then sew this piece on the other side of the charm square so that the black square is at the corner of the 2 white strips, and press it nicely.

Step 2

Sew half the stack of black strips on top of either white strip side, then sew the white square on top of the shorter side of the remaining stack of black strips, and press the seams open. Sew this piece on the other side of the charm square opposite the black strip at the top so that the white square will appear in the corner right above the black square on the corner. After sewing the charm squares with the fabric pieces, sew these blocks together, then finish your quilt however you like, and add a border if desired.
