This sewing project by Erica Arndt on YouTube is the perfect quilt for beginners to try. It’s very simple to make and is so fun, plus, you can play with whatever fabric color or print, and make this quilt block as scrappy as you want. I enjoyed sewing this block so much and I hope that you do, too!
Step 1
Download and print the pattern, cut the fabrics according to size, and label them into groups. Sew 2 (B) squares and 1 (E) square together with ¼ inch seam allowance, press the seams toward the middle, and make another identical row. Sew 2 (B) squares and 1 (F) rectangle with ¼ inch seam allowance, press the seams toward the middle, and make another identical row. Sew 3 (B) squares and 2 (G) rectangles with ¼ inch seam allowance, press the seams toward the darker fabric, and make 2 additional identical rows.

Step 2
Sew 1 (D) rectangle, 2 (G) rectangles, and 2 (A) squares with ¼ inch seam allowance, and press the seams toward the darker fabric. Once done stitching the pieces, lay the strip units into a block making sure to refer to the diagram, then start sewing the rows together, and press the seams open as you go. Place the remaining (A) squares at the top and bottom, then stitch them in place, and press the block flatly. Rotate the block at a 45° angle as shown in the video, then trim the block into a square, and you’re done!
