When you don’t know or can’t decide which quilt to make, then go classic, and try out this lovely but super easy ribbon weave! This type of quilt is very simple and looks super lovely once done, plus, it would make a great gift, too. You only 1 background fabric and 4 different colors and patterns for this project but you can also use a jelly roll and mix and match different fabrics together to make your quilt more lively and fun. Materials:

  • 4 background fabric squares @ 2.5 x 2.5 inches
  • different colors of fabric, cut @ 2.5 x 2.5 inches each
  • different colors of fabric, cut @ 2.5 x 4.5 inches each
  • Ruler
  • Marking pen, pencil, or chalk
  • Scissors or rotary cutter and a cutting mat
  • Iron, for pressing
  • Sewing machine

Directions:

Step 1

Cut the fabric pieces that you need for a single block, then place the background squares on each corner, and place one colored square beside the top left background square. Place a rectangle piece beside it, then place its matching square at the bottom leaving some space as shown in the video, and place another rectangle under the square at the top.

Step 2

Its matching square goes below the background square at the opposite corner, then place the remaining fabric pieces in the spaces until your block is complete, and sew them together starting with the squares and followed by the rectangle beside it.

Step 3

Continue sewing the rest of the units, then sew the units together making sure to press the seam toward the colored fabric as you go, and give it a final press once complete. Make more blocks and start your quilt.
