Materials for Origami Flower Quilt Block:

  • Print fabric, for the flower
  • Background fabric
  • Button
  • Marking pen, pencil, or chalk
  • Ruler
  • Fabric pins
  • Scissors or rotary cutter and a cutting mat
  • Iron, for pressing
  • Sewing machine

How to Make an Origami Flower Quilt Block:

Step 1

Cut the print fabric into a 10½-inch square, then fold it in half with its right sides facing, and press it nicely. Fold it across in half, then press well without pressing over the previous line, unfold, and turn it over with its wrong side up. Fold in all 4 corners toward the center, then press each corner carefully, and pin them together at the center.

Step 2

Carefully flip them over, then fold back both sides of the square letting them meet in the middle, and press along the crease. Unfold and do the same fold in the opposite direction, then make the petals as demonstrated in the video, open each petal, and pin them in place.

Step 3

Now, form each petal nicely, then stitch each petal in the middle, and stitch a button in the center where all the petals are joined. Unfold the base, then stitch a 5×3½-inch strip on each side, and then add an 11×3½-inch strip at the top and bottom to complete the block.
