You only need simple ingredients to make this recipe at home. If you can’t find self-raising flour, do not worry! You can make it by mixing 1 cup of all-purpose flour with 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda. It is equal to one cup of self-raising flour.
To make the cake, all you need to do is mix all the ingredients in a bowl, transfer to a pan, and bake inside the oven. While baking, make the frosting. Once the cake is cooled, spread the frosting on top, and it’s ready for slicing.

Make the cake. In a large bowl, add the softened butter, sugar, self-raising flour, eggs, baking powder, lemon zest, lemon juice, and milk. Start mixing on low speed using a hand mixer, then turn it higher and mix until well combined.
Grease a 9″ x 3″ round baking pan and transfer the batter. Flatten it out.
Preheat your oven to 320F and place the rack on the middle or low. Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 45 to 1 minute. To check if it’s done, insert a skewer in the center of the cake. It should have tiny moist crumbs. Once done, remove it from the pan and let it cool for a few minutes.
While waiting, make the lemon glaze. In a different bowl, add softened butter, lemon zest, and lemon juice. Mix on low speed until well combined.
Spread the frosting on top of the cake. Slice and serve. Enjoy!
