A beginner in quilting? Then you’re in the right place, as this quilt project from Fat Quarter Shop on Youtube is totally for beginners. All you need is one layer cake and, of course, the free pattern found in the video tutorial below. So what are you waiting for? Start making this today by watching the video or reading the written instructions below.

Materials:

  • one print layer cake or 36 – 10″ print squares
  • 5/8 yard binding
  • 3 & 1/4 yards backing
  • (click here for a free pattern)

Cut sixteen 10″ squares into:

  • 1 – 8 & 1/2″ square – 16 total (fabric A)

Cut sixteen 10″ squares into:

  • 2 – 4 & 1/2″ x 8 & 1/2″ rectangles – 32 total (fabric B)

Cut four 10″ squares into:

  • 6 – 2 & 1/2″ x WOF strips (fabric D)

Directions:

Step 1

Grab one fabric A, one fabric C, and two fabric Bs, and assemble them into a block (see the picture below for the placement.) Sew these together with a 1/4″ seam and press according to the pattern. Make 16 pieces of these blocks. (When picking your fabrics, go with big busy prints for fabric A, less busy prints for fabric C, and medium prints for fabric B to get the full effect.)
