I’ve tried a similar project to this houndstooth quilt block before and the approach to piecing it together is much different than what is shown in this video tutorial by Teresa DownUnder on YouTube. The instructions are easier to follow and the steps are simplified, perfect for beginners in quilting.

If you’re a newbie in quilting or even if you’re a seasoned quilter, you’ll surely include this project in your favorites, it’s a neat pattern that is pleasing to the eyes, and you can use this block for any type of quilt that you want to make.
Step 1
Cut the main and background fabric into squares at 9¼ inches, then lay them together with their right sides facing, and stitch them around the edges with a ¼-inch seam allowance. Cut them in half diagonally from corner to corner, then repeat on the opposite diagonal corners to make a total of 4 units, and press them open making sure to cut off the nubs.

Step 2
Arrange the half-square triangle units as shown in the video, then cut them in half vertically, and cut each strip in half to make them square. Separate the small half-square triangles from the solid background and solid print squares, then assemble them into a block as demonstrated in the video, and start stitching them per row. Stitch the rows to each other and make sure to press as you go.
