Illusion and 3D quilt blocks are my favorite kind of block, they are so fun to make, and so playful to look at. I love how the patterns seem to have a life of their own and it’s as if they’re moving at some angle, there are also a lot of great fabrics that you can use in these types of projects.

This quilt project by Teresa DownUnder on YouTube is a must-try! This is the easiest and simplest 3D quilt block that beginners can make, and I bet they can make them perfectly on their first try. So, if you’re looking for a quilt block to show off your quilting skills, then check out the video tutorial below.
Step 1
Make 3 pairs of fabric at 2.5″ x width of the fabric or 42″, then pair medium + dark, medium + light, and dark + light. Stack the pairs with their right sides facing, pin them to the end, and stitch them along one long side.
Step 2
Press the seams nicely, then cut them at 60° to make triangles, you can use a 60° ruler or download the template instead, and make sure to print it at 100%.
Step 3
Once done, you should have a total of 42 triangles enough to make 7 blocks, then to assemble, you’ll need 2 triangles per pair of strips, and arrange them as shown in the video.
Step 4
After forming the pieces, stitch them together one at a time, press the seams as you go, and continue to piece the rest of the blocks.
