Looking for a decor project idea to adorn your garden with? Then, watch this video tutorial by Char’s Nest for a fun weekend activity! This simple but super adorable gnome is made out of recycled paper, cement, and sand. This project is very easy and fun to make on your own or with your family or friends.

Materials:

  • 3 parts of paper pulp
  • 2 parts of portland cement
  • 1 part of perlite or sand
  • Trowel
  • Nylon tights or leggings
  • Gloves
  • Rubber band
  • Scissors
  • Acrylic paint
  • Paintbrush

Directions:

Step 1

Mix together the paper pulp, cement, and sand together until well combined, then switch to using your hands making sure that you’re wearing a pair of gloves, and continue mixing them together until fully incorporated. Cut the leg part of your nylon tights or leggings long enough, then fill it with the mixture push it all the way down to the bottom, and then press to flatten. Once the bottom is flat, proceed to add more mixture and shape it round as you go, then once large enough, and a bit more at the top but do not mix it into the base, instead wrap a piece of a rubber band around to separate the base from the cone.

Step 2

Now, proceed to fill it with more mixture, then shape it into a cone as you go, and tie the top to hold it in place. Pull some cement at the front of the base and shape it into a ball to form the nose, then secure it with a rubber band. Cover the gnome with plastic, then let it cure for at least a day until solid, and start cutting off the fabric. After removing all of the fabric, paint the gnome however you want, then add some red tint on each side of the cheeks, and draw the eyes and mouth.
