Step 1
Lay 1 small red square and 1 small background square with their right sides facing, then line the wrong side of the background square diagonally from corner to corner, and stitch on either side of the line. Cut it apart in half, then press the seams open, and trim off all the excess fabric. Turn the rest of the fabric pieces into half-square triangles and set them aside.

Step 2
Get a large background square, then line it at the back diagonally from corner to corner, and lay it on top of the large dark purple print square with their right sides facing. Stitch on either side of the line, then cut them apart in half, and press the seams open. Repeat for the rest of the pieces, then lay together 2 of those half-square triangle unit with their right sides facing, and make sure that the fabric colors are opposite each other.
Step 3
Line the wrong side of the fabric across the seams, then sew on either side of the line, and cut it in half before pressing the seams open. Now, lay the block units together and assemble them as shown in the video or as demonstrated in the diagram, then stitch them per row, and then the rows to each other making sure to press the seams as you go.
