Materials for Exploding Pineapple Quilt Block:

  • Assorted print fabric
  • Marking pen or pencil
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • A rotary cutter and a cutting mat
  • Fabric pins
  • Needle and thread
  • Iron, for pressing
  • Sewing machine

How to Make an Exploding Pineapple Quilt Block:

Step 1

Start with two 3-inch squares and lay them together with their right sides facing, then sew around them with ¼ inch seam allowance, and draw diagonal lines on the inside from both directions.

Step 2

Cut along the lines stopping when you reach the stitches, then press the fabric open, and measure the square. Cut another square of the same size as measured, then place it on top lining up the sides and their right sides facing, and sew around the square.

Step 3

Draw diagonal lines inside from both directions, then cut along the lines, and press open. Cut the excess fabric, then keep repeating the steps about 3 more times, and square the block, the finished size should be 7×7 inches.
