Eggs benedict has four key components: English muffins, poached eggs, Canadian bacon, and hollandaise sauce. The muffins are slightly toasted with butter, topped with savory bacon slices, and poached eggs with runny yolks then drizzled with a rich and creamy sauce. Homemade Eggs Benedict Ingredients

  • ¼ cup of unsalted butter
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  • ¼ teaspoon of salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon of cayenne pepper or paprika
  • 1/8 teaspoon of ground black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon of vinegar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 English muffins
  • 8 slices Canadian bacon
  • chopped chives for garnish

How to Make Eggs Benedict

Step 1:

Place a small saucepan over medium heat and melt the butter.

Step 2:

In a measuring cup, add egg yolks and whisk until pale yellow. Add lemon juice, cayenne or paprika, and black pepper.

Step 3:

Slowly pour the hot butter into the egg mixture, whisking vigorously for a minute until it thickens. Set it aside for later.

Step 4:

Take a medium saucepan and fill it with 3 inches of water. Place over high heat and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to keep it simmering. Stir in the vinegar.

Step 5:

Add one egg to a small cup, then lower the cup into the water and gently ease the egg out. Poach the egg for 3 to 5 minutes. Adjust time depending on your desired doneness. Once done, remove the egg with a slotted spoon and gently place it on a plate.

Repeat the same process with the remaining eggs.

Step 6:

Slice the English muffins in half and toast.

Step 7:

Place a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the bacon and cook on each side until heated through.

Step 8:

Place two slices of bacon on each muffin half, followed by the poached egg. Spoon the homemade Hollandaise sauce over the top, then garnish with chives. Sprinkle with cayenne or paprika. Serve and enjoy!
