How to Remove Wax Buildup from Earphones or Earbuds

If you own a phone, then you must also have earphones, earbuds, or AirPods, and if you use them frequently, then you’ll see an earwax buildup around the crevices or the inner sides, and if you don’t clean them every day, expect more dirt and buildup. You may forget to clean them sometimes as it may slip your mind or you just don’t feel like it needs cleaning yet, but it starts to really bother you, then it’s only right to give them a good and nice cleaning. However, you have to be very careful about which method you will use because if you use too much moisture or solution, then it might get your earphones wet, and it will be broken. Also, if you’re not gentle enough, the mesh that is supposed to catch the wax might get pushed inside, and it will be difficult to put back. So, it’s better to stick to a simpler but very effective cleaning technique, such as this one by Andrea Jean Cleaning on YouTube.
Materials:
- An old kitchen rag
- Round toothpicks
- Rubbing alcohol
- Spray bottle
- Dry toothbrush, optional
- Cotton swabs

Grab an old but clean kitchen rag, then spray some alcohol until damp, and give the earbuds a quick wipe. Get a toothpick, then using the pointy end, scrape and pick all of the dirt and wax buildups along the sides, and wipe it clean with the alcohol-damped rag. To make the mesh cleaner, you can dampen a cotton swab, then rub it around, or you can also brush it with a dry toothbrush, and repeat as needed.
