Materials:

  • wine corks
  • drill
  • 1/4 and 1/2 drill bits
  • potting soil
  • plants
  • aquarium gravel
  • magnets and craft glue (optional)

Directions:

Step 1

Drill a pilot hole with the smaller bit into the top of each cork. Use the larger bit to enlarge the hole. (Be careful to avoid drilling all the way to the bottom.) The hole should be about 1-inch deep. Next, add a tiny amount of potting soil to the planting hole, then snip a plant clipping like a chick from a hen and chicks succulent or a creeping sedum like bright green Angelina.

Step 2

After this, place the clipping into the cork, adding more soil if necessary, and gently tamp down to secure the clipping. Add a bit of aquarium gravel as a finishing touch. Glue a magnet to the back of each cork if you want to make refrigerator magnets or you can simply place them on a windowsill. Water the cork planter every ten days or so.
