I’ve always wanted to have hanging planters and have also been planning to purchase them for a while now, so I did some research and looked for inspirations or ideas that I could use, and that’s when I found this video tutorial by HGTV Handmade on YouTube.

What I love about these pinch pot planters is the fact that they work as great decor and you only need small plants to put into the pots which is perfect if you love tiny succulents like me. This is so much better and adorable than large store-bought hanging plants, and they are super easy to make, too!

Materials for DIY Hanging Pinch Pot Planters:

  • Polymer oven-bake clay
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Paintbrush
  • Wooden skewer
  • Cotton twine
  • Small wooden ring
  • Scissors

Step 1

Start with clean hands and a clean work surface, then get a small piece of clay, and soften it by squeezing it with your hands. Shape the clay into a ball, then press the center with your thumbs, and pull up the sides until it’s shaped like a bowl. It doesn’t have to be perfect, texture and unevenness on the edges are welcome.

Step 2

Next, dip a brush in alcohol, then apply it to the clay, and gently smooth it out with your fingers as shown in the video. Punch three holes on the sides with a wooden skewer, then paint it with any color or design that you want, and bake it according to the package instructions.

Step 3

Measure the twine about 6 times the length that you want your planter to hang, then cut it out, and thread the twine to the holes around the pot as demonstrated in the video. Make sure to insert the ends of the twine into the wooden ring, then knot them securely in place, transfer your tiny succulent to the pot, and hang it wherever you want.
