With that said, you have to be extra careful when you do this as you’re working with fabrics and light bulbs which can easily catch fire, so make sure to use the right products and take caution. You can also choose a different set of lights to not alarm or worry your neighbors too much, or you can also advise them beforehand so you don’t get visited frequently by firefighters.

Materials for Halloween Realistic Fake Fire:

• Lightweight fabric, silver or white
• A fan per window
• A stand fan
• Curtain rods
• Tape
• Scissors
• LED light bulbs, red, yellow, and orange
• Clamp lamp holder

How to Make a Realistic Fake Fire for Halloween:

Step 1

Place the fans in the bottom of each window making sure it’s facing upward, if you have a shelf, you can place them there, but if you don’t, you can use a chair or any object that you can use as a base. You also need a few small objects or cut small pieces of wood to place underneath each side of the fan to lift it from the surface and make sure there’s good airflow.

Step 2

Once the fan is set up, measure the total length of fabric that you’ll need, starting from the rod to the fan, then add some allowance, and cut the fabric to size. Hang the fabric to the rod, then place the rod above the window, and attach the fabric to the bottom with an anchor or any object to hold it down, but make sure that the curtain is loose enough to have a billowing effect, and adjust it as needed.

Step 3

Tape the fabrics together or overlap them, then place an extra stand fan at the back to have some movement variation, and put the LED light bulbs in the clamp lamp holder or improvise any object that you could use to get your lights on the right spot. Place a light on each side of each fan, then point them upwards and toward each other so it creates a mixture of light/color in the middle.

Note: Use LED light bulbs because they don’t get super hot like halogen light bulbs, since you will place them very close to the fabric, you have to be very careful when you do these special effects because this can easily become a fire hazard.
