I have tried a lot of quilt blocks before but nothing makes me happier than making a disappearing hourglass quilt block! There’s something about the process of making this that feels relaxing and I love how there are lots of possibilities and ways to put together this block. You can come up with your own pattern and play with the order as much as you want, there really is no restriction for this type of block and you’re free to explore your creativity. When it comes to colors, you can try different combinations and patterns, from simple to busy ones, it’s really up to you. If you want to try your hands with this quilt block, then watch this video tutorial by Teresa DownUnder on YouTube to learn how.
Step 1
Grab two different fabric squares, then lay them together with their right sides facing, then pin them in place, and sew them around with a ¼ inch seam allowance. Place a ruler on top of the fabric positioning it diagonally, then cut the fabric in half from corner to corner, carefully lift the ruler, place it diagonally the opposite way, and cut the fabric through in half from corner to corner.

Step 2
Press open the fabric pieces making sure to press the seams towards the darker side of the fabric, this will leave you with four half-square triangles. Trim each half-square triangle into 6½ inches squares, then assemble them together to form a single block as shown in the video, and sew them together. Next, unpick the stitching along the center ¼-inch seam to reduce the bulk when pressing, then press the center seam nice and flat, and press all around the block.
Step 3
Measure the block approximately every 4 and 1/8 inches or divide it by 3, then cut the fabric through vertically following the markings, and then cut it horizontally, you should end up with nine small squares. Now, switch the squares and assemble them however you want or until you have a pattern that you like, or you can also follow the pattern as shown in the video, then sew them piece by piece, and your block is done!
