Crepe paper is one my favorite types of paper for crafting. It’s flexible, textured, durable, and comes in a wide range of colors. If you are planning to make paper flowers, crepe paper is a great material to work with.

To make realistic flowers, you have to pay attention to every detail. Look closely to the actual flower you want to replicate, it’s shape, size, color, cuts, and folds all play a role. This flower is a good starting point for beginners.

Keep in mind that there are different types of crepe paper, each vary in weight and texture. Some of the most common types are extra fine, heavy, doublette, metallic, Italian, German, and Chinese. Try experimenting with different kinds to see which works best for your flower designs.

How to Make Crepe Paper Flowers

This DIY flower is very easy to make, so there’s no need to worry! There are no complicated steps involved, making it the perfect starter project for newbies. Learn how to make DIY paper flowers using crepe paper with this easy step-by-step tutorial. Have fun crafting!

  1. Cutting a rectangle

    Cut a piece of crepe paper measuring 3 inches by 29 inches. Fold it into a 3.9-inch rectangle. You’ll need two pieces in two different colors.

  2. Cutting the petals

    Cut 5 slits, then trim the tips diagonally to make pointed ends.

  3. Unfolding the crepe paper

    Unfold both pieces and place them on top of each other.

    Take three pieces of floral wire, twist the ends together, then bend them to form a loop.

    Fold one end of the crepe paper, then place the stem on top.

    Gently crumple the crepe paper around the stem.

  7. Tying the paper flower

    Take a small piece of jute twine and wrap it around the base of the flower. Tie the ends into a knot.

    Wrap the base and stem with floral tape.
