Super Easy Crab Claws Quilt Block Tutorial (with Free Pattern)

I’m always on the lookout for quilt projects that are interesting and fun such as this one by Carol Thelen on YouTube! It looks like it would be very simple to make and what makes it even better is that it only requires 3 different fabrics which is what I prefer in most quilts. It is indeed a worthy project to try and it also makes a great gift to a loved one, so learn how now, and you’ll surely love it, too.
Materials:
- Dark print fabric
- Light print fabric
- Background fabric
- Marking pen, pencil, or chalk
- Ruler
- Scissors or rotary cutter and a cutting mat
- Needle and thread
- Iron, for pressing
- Sewing machine

Directions:
Step 1
Cut the fabric to size, then sort them into units, and start to assemble them into 4 different flying geese units. To sew them, first, fold down one triangle on the side over the triangle on the center, then line up the bottom nicely, and sew them down with a ¼-inch seam allowance. Press it open, then sew the other triangle on the opposite side using the same process, press it open, and repeat the same steps with the rest of the flying geese units.

Step 2
Make 2 of each flying geese unit and set them aside, then pair the small print squares with the small background squares as shown in the video, and stitch the 2 squares together making sure to press them open. Continue to stitch together the rest of the square pairs, then start putting the blocks together making sure to refer to the diagram, and then start stitching the block units together per row. Press the seams open, then sew the rows to each other, and press them nicely.
