Materials:

  • Soap
  • Water
  • Microfiber cloth
  • 3000 grit sandpaper
  • 5000 grit sandpaper
  • Sponge
  • Polish
  • Wax

Directions:

Step 1

Prepare a soapy water mixture, then test whether this method will work by spraying the scratch generously, and then wipe it off with a clean microfiber cloth. If the scratch disappears and comes back once it dries, then this method will work, however, if the scratch did not disappear upon spraying and wiping, then it’s too deep, and requires a different repair approach. Make sure to rip off the tag of the towel before using it because it can scratch the area, too. Now, place tape around the area about half an inch away on each side, then rip the ends of the tape so that it ends exactly where the scratch ends as well. If the scratch isn’t that deep and it doesn’t grab your fingernail, then skip to using the 5000-grit sandpaper, otherwise start with 3000-grit. Spray the area first, then wipe, and start sanding the scratch perpendicularly or against the grain.

Step 2

You might also want to wrap the sandpaper around the sponge to even out the pressure you’re going to apply. Remember to apply medium pressure first, then stop once in a while to check whether the scratch is gone, and if not, continue spraying, wiping, and sanding until completely gone. Now, move the tape away by half an inch, then use 5000-grit to sand the area using a circular motion to remove the scratches in all directions and blend it with the surrounding paint. Clean the surface with soapy water and wipe it down to remove any dirt, then apply the polish in a clean microfiber towel, and rub it in the area using a circular motion with medium to high pressure. Use the clean part of the towel and buff the area, then apply the paste wax along the area, let it sit for a minute, and wipe it off.
