Materials:

  • 18 fat quarters
  • 4 yards of backing fabric
  • 1/2 yard binding fabric

Directions:

Step 1

The first thing you need to do is out of your 18 fat quarters, you will select 14 of those that you will cut 2 pcs. 8 & 1/2 x 16 & 1/2″ rectangles. For the other four fat quarters, you will cut 1 pc. 8 & 1/2″ x 16 & 1/2 rectangles and 2 pcs. 8 & 1/2″ squares. (Those squares will actually be placed on the outside edges of the quilt). Make sure that you already have a straight edge on the left side. The next step is to line up your fabric on the zero of your cutting mat, then cut at 8 & 1/2″ on the mark of your cutting mat. After this, move over to 17 and cut.

Step 2

Now that you have all of your rectangles and squares cut, lay them with the top row containing four 8 & 1/2″ x 16 & 1/2″ rectangles. The second row has three of those rectangles and two 8 & 1/2″ squares. Continue laying out your rows in this way alternating between each row whether it’s all rectangles or rows that include the squares for a total of nine rows. Once your rows are completed, you will sew them together to finish your quilt top. Your completed quilt will measure 64″ x 72″.
