Donna’s Roundabout Quilt

This design may look complicated, but it’s actually not. Even beginners can easily make Donna’s roundabout quilt just by following the step-by-step instructions by Jordan Fabrics below. The fabrics are cut into triangles to form these big beautiful circles. Watch the video below and start sewing now.
Materials:
- 12 fat quarters dark tones
- 18 fat quarters light tones or 4 1/2 yards of light print or solid
- 5/8 yard for inner border
- 1 yard for outside border
- 3/4 yard for binding
- 5 yards for backing
Note: use a 45 degree triangle ruler
Instructions:
Step 1:
Take 6 of the light fat quarters and set them aside. They will be for the corners of the blocks and they’re going to be cut differently.
Step 2:
For each of the remaining 12 light fat quarters and 12 dark fat quarters, cut 3 strips 5″ wide by the height of the fabric. Place the 5″ line of the ruler on the edge and cut 7 triangle wedges from all strips. You’ll get a total of 21 from each fat quarter. You’ll need 224 pieces of light and 224 pieces of dark wedges.
Step 3:
For one block, you need 8 triangle wedges – 4 lights and 4 darks. Get one light and one dark and sew them together on one long side. Repeat with 3 more pairs. Once done, press the seam allowance to one side in the same way. Stitch two of the pairs together, then sew the two half blocks together. Make sure you match up the middle seam intersections. Trim off the corners. Repeat the same process to make a total of 56 blocks.
Step 4:
Get the 6 fat quarters you set aside earlier and cut 4 pieces of 3 1/2″ strips the height of the fat quarter from each one. Next, cut each strip into 5 squares for a total of 20 pieces of 3 1/2″ squares. Cut each square in half diagonally. You need 112 squares for a total of 224 triangles.
Step 5:
Get 28 of the blocks and sew corner triangles onto the light triangle wedges to make the square block. Press the seam allowances away from the center and toward the outside corners. Next, get the remaining blocks and sew corner triangles onto the dark triangles wedges to make the block the square. Trim off all dog ears and make it a 9 1/2″ block.
Step 6:
Arrange the blocks into 8 rows with 7 blocks in each row. Alternate the blocks with light corners and the blocks with dark corners. Sew them together.
