Materials:

  • 18-inch round wood platter, smooth and sanded
  • Tread wheels, optional
  • Felt pads for the feet, optional
  • Paintbrush
  • Small foam brushes
  • 2 handles
  • Screws
  • Acrylic paint, red or pink, green, black, white
  • Clearcoat
  • Screwdriver
  • Small paintbrush for drawing details

Directions:

Step 1

Put the treadwheel underneath the wood platter for nice sturdy feet for the tray using some screws or nails. Then, put some red paint over and spread it in an even layer using your paintbrush, make sure to cover only the top and not the side, and repeat another layer of paint if desired. Grab a foam brush and paint around the edges with white until all around the edges are covered, cover the outer top of the tray with about 3 inches of white as well for the rind.

Step 2

Paint the outer white layer on top with green using a foam brush leaving about 1 inch of white around the inner, paint the sides as well with green, then start painting the seeds using black paint, and let dry completely. Cover the tray with a clear coat including the sides and underneath, let dry completely before adding another coat, then attach the handles evenly on each side using some screws. Put the felt pads underneath the tread wheels for extra stability.
