Ever heard of sock animals? We just learned how to make a sock penguin over the weekend, and I am going to have an entire family of these adorable sock penguins by  Valentine’s Day. So much fun to make, easy to do and they all turn out differently but super cute, this DIY sock penguin uses a sock and ordinary rice for stuffing and the results are incredible! You can freeze the rice for 4 to 5 hours to protect from weevils.

My children and I get very bored over the holidays and things can easily go haywire at a moment’s notice, so to keep everyone on track, I keep boxes of projects that I can pull out and put in the middle of the table and seat them quietly all round to focus their attention on their own creative spirit. I keep a few boxes of sock projects on hand and one of my favorites is the DIY Sock Penguin. This is such a cute, fun project, everyone from old to young love it. The original black and white Sock will work best for this project, but any socks will work.

Fill the black sock with rice and make a hed for your penguin with a snug-fitting rubber band.

Then cut 2 circles of white felt to make a face and a bib for your penguin and then make a hat out of a brightly colored sock.

Then you just add features to your adorable penguin and some Valentine’s Day-themed sticker hearts.
