Materials:

  • Cinder blocks
  • Painter’s tape
  • Round sponge brush
  • Acrylic paint
  • Hardware cloth
  • Landscape fabric
  • Soil
  • Flowers

Directions:

Step 1

Place the cinder block on your work surface flatly on its side. Then, apply a strip of painter’s tape on the side of the cinder block diagonally or any way you like as long as it creates a partition on the cinder block. Use a round sponge brush to cover the upper part of the tape with acrylic paint, the tape will prevent any leaked paint on the other side and create an even line at the same time. You can add more tape if you want more design, then use other stencils with different patterns and designs at the bottom for easier painting, set it aside, and let it dry completely.

Step 2

Start working on the other cinder blocks as well, then mix and match the stencils, as well as the acrylic paints, and experiment with the designs. Once they are all completely dry, start assembling them on the area or corner where you want your planter to be. Place and arrange the cinder blocks however you want, then add a hardware cloth on top and in between of two cinder blocks. Stack another layer of blocks and add hardware cloth on top of them again to avoid the cinder blocks from moving out of place. Insert landscape fabrics on the holes of the cinder blocks and fill them with soil, then insert/ plant your flowers.
