This clever tutorial shows you how to make a print of an original key, and transfer it onto the lid of a food can. You can then cut out your own DIY spare key and use it to unlock your padlock or other locks. You might want to use pliers and safety gloves to do this project, and please be careful not to cut yourself.
I’ve needed a spare key off and on throughout my life, but I never imagined you could make one! This is brilliant! They’re a little bit flimsy, but they actually work.
In his video, Dave Hax starts by lighting the key with a lighter until it turns black. Then he makes an impression of the key by laying the key on a piece of tape…the black will transfer onto the tape. Next he places a piece of tape on a can lid and cuts around the outline. Yep, it’s that simple! Who would have thought?!
Now that dreaded trip to your hardware store to have a key made can be postponed. There have been so many times I’ve needed a spare key, and I know I’m not the only one.
Watch how Dave Hax does this in his step by step tutorial and make yourself a spare key!
