Get your measuring tape, soda can, and marker. Place your measuring tape on the top side of the soda can, then make marks 0.4 inches apart from each other around. Next, draw one vertical line parallel to the long side of the can.
Repeat the marking on the bottom part of the soda can. Connect the marks from both sides with a ruler.
Start with the removal of the bottom part of the soda can. Place your X-acto knife on a piece of scrap wood. Press the blade onto the scrap wood, then turn the soda can around to make a groove. Open it with a credit card, then remove the bottom.
Using a pair of scissors, cut the lines you drew earlier all the way through the top. Once done, bend the stripes so they will form a sun-like structure.
Apply glue on the ends of the strips on both sides. Let the sides dry separately for about 10 to 15 minutes.
After 15 minutes, stick the strips together. Be sure to align them properly. The strips hold immediately together so be careful.
Start forming the hot air balloon by applying a little bit of pressure to the strips.
Cut a rectangular piece from a soda can and flatten it. Form it into a box.
Use the paper clip as a connector between the basket and the balloon. Twist the other end to make a stand, then glue it on the bottom part of the inside of the basket.
Add glue to the end of the hot air balloon, then connect the basket to the balloon. Let it dry completely.
Tie a string to the tab of the soda can so you can hang it.
