This DIY quilt ladder by Erica Arndt on YouTube is impressive because she only uses pieces of wood, screws, and chalk paint. Normally, quilt or blanket ladders would be expensive, and it’s hard to come by. I used to spend a lot of time searching for a white ladder to throw my blankets on there for my living room, but they would cost about $100. At the time, I wanted to build my own because I didn’t want to buy a ladder for that price. After watching Erica’s tutorial, I am convinced and motivated on making one now. Also, I used to think they were difficult to make, but it’s easier than I thought. I love the simplicity of the ladder, and it would be a great way to display blankets or quilts. This ladder has many uses to it. You can hang scarves, or towels too.

Supplies:

  • Three 2′ x 2′ x 8′ pieces of wood
  • Eight 3″ screws
  • Optional: Annie Sloan Antique White Chalk Paint and clear wax

Directions:

First, purchase your wood at any wood store such as Home Depot. Cut two of your wood 6″ long, and the other one into four 23″ long pieces. Use a ruler to position the first shelf piece at 9″ down, and each other subsequent ones are about 12″ in between. The bottom piece is 18″ up.

Overall, this is a cute DIY to make because ladders are usually expensive. I bought one that cost me over $80, and I know this would be inexpensive to make. It surprises me that she bought only 3 supplies for this DIY ladder.
