I went to the mall today and found these beautiful macrame tassel keychains, but I hesitated to buy them and ended up not buying them. When I got home, I absolutely regretted it, and it came across my mind the whole day. By the way, I live far from the mall. So, I went online and thought, “oh, maybe I can make it by myself.” I came across LET BE’s video on YouTube and was in awe of how beautifully made it was, even better than what I saw at the mall.

I found out how easy it was to make, checked my trusty DIY kit, and found all the needed materials. It was the perfect match.

Materials:

  • twisted cotton rope 4mm
  • key chain 1.4cm x 4cm
  • wood bead 2cm x 2cm
  • tape measure
  • scissors
  • needle
  • fur brush
  • comb
  • flat iron

Directions:

Knots used: lark’s head knot, overhand knot, wrapping knot.

Prepare all the materials needed. 5 cords of 60 cm should be ready.

To connect the wood bead to the key chain, untie one of the 60cm cords into 3 strands and fold in half. Securely tie a lark’s head knot on the keychain. Thread both tail strands through a needle and put them into the wood bead. With two 60cm cords, cross each cord at the center part and fold the cords clockwise. To complete the crown knot, adjust as you pull the cord tails away from each other.

Connect the crown knot to the key chain by using a thread and needle to pass it through the center of the crown knot. Make sure to pull the cords tightly.

To secure the two strands, pull them together and tie an overhand knot. Leave the two strands without cutting for the tassel to be more affluent. Make a cross out of the two cords. Repeat the crown knot two more times by first folding them clockwise. Adjust and secure it tightly.

For the second crown knot, fold them counterclockwise. Adjust and secure it tightly. With the other 60cm strand, wrap and tie the crown knots using a wrapping knot. Pull each cord to make the keychain shape pretty and untie each cord into threads. Measure the threads and neatly cut them at 15 cm.

Brush the threads out using a fur brush and straighten them with a flat iron.  Comb the threads.  Cut the excess cords and cut them in order again.
