In this step by step tutorial, Debs Days will teach you how to make this using only scrap fabrics and rubber shelf liners. It’s quick, easy, and a project for all skill levels. Learn how to make it by watching the video tutorial below for the step by step instructions.

Materials:

  • regular sewing supplies
  • fabrics
  • rubber shelf liner
  • Teflon sewing machine foot (or painter’s tape)
  • magnet (optional)

Directions:

Step 1

To start, place one piece of fabric with the right side facing up, then the rugged shelf liner on top, and finally the other piece of fabric with the right side facing down. Clip the stack in place, then stitch around the square using a 1/4″ seam allowance, leaving a gap for turning.

Step 2

Once done sewing, clip the corners, turn the project right side out through the gap, then finger press the gap under. If you like to add a magnet, insert it through the opening and place it up in the corner. Stitch diagonally to hold it in place using a Teflon sewing machine foot, or by placing painter’s tape on the bottom of your existing sewing machine foot. After this, top stitch all the way around an eight of an inch from the edges. Your DIY fabric jar opener is now finished!
