I keep every single scrap of fabric from my sewing projects, so I’m always on the lookout for great DIY’s that will help me utilize all those scraps. While searching Youtube yesterday I came across this fantastic DIY describing how to make fabric from fabric scraps and I couldn’t wait to try it! I started by getting a scrap that was about one foot by one foot and attaching a piece of fusible interfacing in the backside of it to make it strong, then I started arranging my pieces as I would want them to look as a finished piece of fabric. You can even add little words and pieces of trim.
Then I pinned a piece of solvy on top and pinned it, then lowered my feed dogs and used a free motion foot to sew random patterns across my fabric.
You can sew anything here, as with all DIY there is no right or wrong way to do this. When you are finished with your embellishments, you just wash the fabric and the Solvy comes right off. Solvy is a great thing to use on this project because it will hold everything down and let your free-motion presser foot glide over the project unhindered.
This Fabric Scrap Fabric is great for appliques and thick enough to use as a covering for a journal, really it will work in so many cool ways as a decorative addition to just about anything. I really love this project and am so grateful to @stitchesbyjulia for making such a great video.
