DIY Christmas Mug Rug

This DIY Christmas mug rug by The Sewing Room Channel on YouTube is small and perfect to place your coffee or tea on a dining or kitchen table. Plus, they are great snack mats to make for stocking stuff or small gift. Also, they are miniature placemats and would be nice to make for your kids. She makes sewing easy to learn with all of her sewing project tutorials. Also, I think they are convenient for those that work from home so you can keep these at your office desk. The choice of fabric for this mug rug is bright, vibrant, and festive for the holidays.

Supplies:

• 1 (3 1/2″ x 6 1/2″) background fabric
• 3 (2 1/2″) red squares
• 3 (2 1/2″) green squares
• 1 (4 1/2″ x 6″) green for the tree
• 1 (3 1/4″ x 5 1/4″) white copy paper
• 1 cardstock paper
• 1 (6 1/2″ x 8 1/2″) back fabric
• 1 (6 1/2″ x 8 1/2″) cotton batting
• 1 (2 3/4″) strip binding
• Lite EZ-Steam Fusible Web

Directions:

First, cut all of your fabric into the measurements from above. Then, take your white piece of paper and fold it in half. Use a ruler to draw some lines to make the Christmas Tree pattern. Next, once you stitch your tree together and all of the square pieces, layer all of the 3 pieces. Use fabric pins and hold the fabric in place while doing the topstitching. Stitch in the ditch across where two pieces of the fabric come together around the squares. Lastly, put the binding around the edges.

Overall, this would be nice to make for the whole family, and you can customize them by adding the first letter of your name. I love how festive the Christmas mug rug turned out, and they are a perfect size.
