In this step by step tutorial, P&N Homemade will teach you how to make these bowl covers with only scrap fabrics. You can make it in different sizes and even use it to cover pots and pans! It’s one of my favorite sewing projects and I usually make these if I need a personalized gift for a friend or family. Check out the video tutorial below for the complete step-by-step instructions.

Materials:

  • scrap fabrics
  • mesh fabric
  • bowl/pots
  • fabric marker
  • sewing machine
  • scissors
  • ruler
  • elastic band

Directions:

Step 1

Lay the fabric scrap, right side down, on your working surface, and then put a bowl on top. Trace it using a fabric marker, and then put marks all around, 1/6″ away from the first circle. Connect these to make another circle. Cut the shape out once done. Repeat these steps to make another circle but with a bigger bowl (or pot) this time. Once done, take the bigger circle, fold it in half, then fold it again. Open it, then draw a cross mark right in the center. After this, sew a zigzag on the edges of the circle all around. Repeat this with the other circles you made.

Step 2

Now, sew an elastic band, shorter than the circumference of the circle, 1/4″ away from the edges. Once done, take the circle with a cross mark and place a mesh fabric on top. Sew down the mesh fabric in a circular manner, and then cut off the excess mesh. After this, cut out the fabric beneath the mesh right in the center. Finish it by sewing an elastic band at the edges.
