Check out these ideas, we know you will be adding them to your “must sew next” list. When it comes to buying things for boys, there seem to be far less cute options for sale in stores. However, if you make these, you can have all the cuteness of girls clothes and accessories since you get to choose your own fabrics and trim. Whether you want to make some things for babies, toddlers, little boys or even girls, the sewing projects for the little folk in your life are super cute. Get the sewing machine out but keep the camera nearby. Many of these are just waiting for a photo op.

When it comes to cool sewing projects for boys, does it get any better than a superhero cape? This adorable handmade cape with monogram is sure to be a hit with that special little boy or toddler. Make a matching doll with cape and he may never take it off, even to go to bed. I love the way the letter is customized to his name on the back. As a mother, I learned that kids can and will sleep anywhere. Once thinking they neeeded lots of room, I now know twenty can sleep in one room if they just have soft mats like this sleeping bag. Not sure if you’ve seen the sleeping bags for sale in stores right now, but they are decidedly not cute, in my opinion, nor are they made of fabrics I would want next to my skin. Choose your own fabric instead and making this DIY sleeping bag. With a step by step sewing tutorial, what you see is what you get. I had thought this one might be too big of an endeavor for me, because I’ve only sewn smaller projects in the past, however, the instructions were easy to follow and very clear. Now, my only problem is that I have friends asking me to sew the for their kids or at least asking where they can get one (HINT) A super cute sewing project, well worth the time.

3. Aprons For Boys

Mommy’s little helper needs at least one of these aprons. Not sure if these handmade aprons will actually help keeep anything clean when it comes to little boys, but they sure are cute and my son loves wearing his. This apron makes him feel important when he is doing “jobs” helping me. I made one last year for him as a Christmas gift and he wears it every time we cook in the kitchen. It was easy to sew and I made the pocket out of two pieces of my favorite fabric scraps I’d been saving for that special project, one with little tiny boats and the other with sharks. Found some pretty wave fabric at Joann’s for the apron and he calls it his shark apron. Any combo of coordinating fabrics will work. Only took me about an hour to make, too. For an easy Christmas present you can sew for a boy or girl, I love the idea of this handmade apron.

4. DIY Dino Hoodie

Now this sewing pattern is Instagram ready if there ever was one. How cute is this, really? Every little monster should have one of these multicolored dino hoodies. I no longer have a baby or toddler in the house or he (or she) would be wearing this, for sure. When it comes to cute kids ideas to sew, this just may be my top pick.

5. DIY Drawstring Backpack

Now here is an easy idea that makes a lovely gift for children. This DIY sewing project is for a lightweight backpack that can be used for books or school supplies, even packing a bag to spend the night with grandma. Inexpensive and pretty quick to whip up, this soft carry all will be something the kids just might be proud enough of to put some things in it instead of only taking them out 😉 Choose colorful coordinating fabrics in fun patterns and you will end up with a backpack that is far cuter than anything sold in stores. Here’s a pillow case to make for the boy who never wants to get in bed. Make him keep the pillow in the bed if he wants it, then you just might have a shot at a reasonable bedtime? Any gimmick will work when you are a tired Mom. I think this handmade pillowcase sewing project is super cute whether my plan works or not 😉

Here is my go to birthday gift idea for boys right now. Dads always seem to get excited to see their sons in football hats like this, and I found this project to be super simple to make. Warm for winter, too. Photo ready and just might get a ton of likes. What more do you need in an idea to make for a boys gift at Christmas or any other gift giving occasion?

8. Boys Boxer Briefs

Learn how to make boxers for boys in soft cute fabrics instead of either 1) buying something made of an inferior material and pattern that is sure to look not so great after a few washings 2)paying $15 or more to buy some well made cute little boy boxers in a boutique store, knowing full well that he will grow out of them in a year or less. Making boxers is not tough and once you get the hang of it, you will be wanting lots of these. Since all my guys wear sometimes in their underwear, I figure it best be cute, as lots of our photo moments are only available when he is sporting his #1 outfit choice, a pair of boxers. If you have two boys, I highly recommend color coordinating two fabrics with the front placket matching the other pair. With a free pattern included, this is such an awesome tutorial.
