Ingredients:

  • 1½ cups Fresh Okra, sliced
  • 1 cup Buttermilk
  • 1 Egg, beaten
  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
  • ¾ cup Cornmeal
  • 2 tbsp Cajun seasoning
  • Oil, for deep frying

Directions:

Step 1

Wash the okras thoroughly, then cut them into small bite-sized pieces, and pat dry using a paper towel. You can also lay them on top of a cloth towel and let them sit while they’re draining their excess moisture and while you’re preparing other mixtures. Then, in a mixing bowl, add in the buttermilk and egg, whisk them together until fully combined. Start adding in the okra in batches, let them sit for a few minutes to let them soak in the mixture well.

Step 2

In a separate bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and cornmeal, whisk them together until incorporated, then add in some cajun seasoning, mix them again until uniform. You can add more or other seasonings if you want. Transfer this breading mixture into a Ziploc bag, then remove the sliced okra from the batter and transfer to a strainer, then put them in the Ziploc bag filled with the breading mixture, and shake until well coated.

Step 3

Fill a pot with cooking oil about halfway, then heat it. Once the oil is hot enough, get the okra and shake off the excess flour, then deep fry in batches for about 3 to 5 minutes until golden brown, remember to not overcrowd the pot. You can sprinkle seasoning or salt and pepper to taste while still hot if preferred, then serve.
