Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp white vinegar
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 2 1/2 cups of flour
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp baking powder
  • 8 tbsp of cut cold butter

Directions:

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Add 1 tbsp of white vinegar to 1 cup of milk then stir. (This will create a buttermilk-like substance; a perfect substitute for buttermilk.) Set it aside. In a large mixing bowl, combine all of the dry ingredients. Add 1 slice of butter at a time into the mixture. Combine your mixture with your dry hands as the heat from your hands will help the butter melt. Combine it until the dough resembles large doughy crumbs. Lastly, add the milk into the dough mixture.

Step 2

Put a generous amount of flour on a surface and then flour your hands. Put your dough on the surface and begin to knead it. Fold the dough over and over to create layers, then leave about 1-inch thickness so your biscuits will become nice and fluffy. Grab a glass and flour the rim of it. Use this to cut little circles into your biscuit dough. Place the biscuits in an ungreased pan. Place them in the oven for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, add a generous amount of butter to each biscuit. After this, put them back in the oven for another 5 minutes. Transfer the biscuits to a plate and serve.
