It’s my go-to pattern whenever I need a quick quilt for gifting or if I just want to pass some time. I love mixing my fabrics with this pattern, but it’s absolutely beautiful, even if you use solid pattern fabrics. Watch the video tutorial below to learn the step by step instructions.

Materials:

For a Throw Size:

  • 42 – 10″ printed squares
  • 1/2 yard binding
  • 3 1/2 yards backing
  • 56″ x 64″ batting

Directions:

Step 1

To start, take twenty-one 10″ squares and subcut them into 5″ squares. Next, with the remaining twenty-one 10″ squares, trim them down to 8 1/2″ squares and set aside. Select two different prints and two 5″ squares per print, pick the lighter print, and then draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of that fabric. After this, line the two different prints, right sides together, then sew a 1/4″ seam allowance on both sides of the drawn line. After sewing, cut directly in the middle. Press open afterward.

Step 2

With those four half-square triangles, create a diamond block, then sew the pieces together. Repeat the same steps to make as many diamond blocks as you need. Once you’re done, start laying down the quilt top. Start with a print square followed by a diamond block; keep alternating between the two. For the even rows, start with the diamond block followed by the print square. After this, sew the blocks together to make rows, then sew those rows together to complete the quilt top.
