If you made Missouri Star‘s periwinkle patterns before, then you probably have the MSQC wacky web (periwinkle) template. There are so many patterns you can try with this template, and this butterfly blossom quilt is just one of those. Isn’t this pattern beautiful? I absolutely love the design, and it is perfect for this coming spring. Just a few days away, and there will be flowers everywhere again, which is why this is the perfect sewing project to make this week.

Making this block is super fun and easy. Anyone can try this project at home, even if you are a beginner. For this quilt, you will be using the blanket stitch or the zigzag stitch instead of the normal straight stitch we often use. Do not worry, if you haven’t tried it before, as Jenny Doan will teach you the step-by-step instructions in the video below. Go ahead and try to make one at home – I am sure you’ll enjoy it. Take your 5″ print square and lay the periwinkle template. Line it up on the edges of the fabric and trim the sides off.
Fold the long sides and the small flat edge about 1/4″ and iron them down.
Place the folded print on top of a 5″ background square. Do a blanket stitch or zigzag stitch. Find it on your machine what stitch it is and set up your blanket stitch.
Repeat steps 1 to 3 for all the other squares.
Get four of the blocks and arrange them just like in the photo below. Sew with a 1/4″ seam allowance. Remember the points come to the middle. Press the seams flat.
You need four blocks for each row. In between each block, add 1 1/2″ strips the same size of your block.
You will be making 5 rows. In between each row, add 1 1/2″ strips the same size of your block, then add the 1 1/2″ square cornerstones.
