Making crafts and DIY projects is a hobby and skill that I picked up a long time ago. It’s a pretty interesting activity and is also very useful because you can recreate certain items at home for a more affordable price rather than purchase them from the store.

DIYs don’t necessarily mean projects that involve cardboard, decor, lighting, etc., it applies to anything that you made by hand or from scratch, for example, this DIY fresh lemon soap by Tellervo on YouTube! It’s not only great for personal use but you can give them as a gift, too.

Step 1
Zest the lemons and spread them onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, then bake them until completely dried and set them aside to cool down. Meanwhile, juice the zested lemons, then measure about 140 grams or about ½ cup and add in the citric acid. Stir them until dissolved, then put them in the freezer, and let them sit until completely frozen.
Step 2
Transfer the dried lemon zest to a pot, then add the annatto seeds, and olive oil, and heat them on low for about 3 to 5 hours or overnight. Line a sieve with cloth, then set it over a measuring cup or bowl, and pour in the infused olive oil.
Step 3
Take only 198 grams or 1 cup of the oil, then add the grapeseed oil, coconut oil, mango butter, and shea butter, and heat them until melted making sure to stir consistently. Remove the oil from the heat, then set it aside, and let it cool completely.
Step 4
At this part, make sure to wear gloves and goggles to protect your hands and eyes, add half of the sodium hydroxide to the frozen lemon solution, sti it until frozen, and then stir in the remaining sodium hydroxide.
Step 5
In a separate bowl, mix together all of the essential oils along with the cornstarch, then add the lye solution to the infused olive oil, and gently stir them until uniform. Emulsify the mixture with a stick blender, then add the essential oil mixture, and mix them well.
Step 6
Pour the soap mixture into the mold, then tap it lightly on the counter to remove air bubbles, and add a design on top as shown in the video. Let it cool completely until hardened. it may take overnight, then the next day, remove the soap from the mold and grate the rough edges smoothly. Cut the soap into bars, then grate the edges if needed, and wrap them however you want.
