The secret to a delicious spiral ham is this brown gaze. It gives the ham the perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors. To make the glaze, you’ll need brown sugar, honey, Dijon mustard, apple cider, ground cloves, black pepper, and fresh herbs.
Serve spiral ham with scalloped potatoes, green bean casseroles, roasted vegetables, coleslaw, or cornbread.
In a small mixing bowl, add 1 cup of brown sugar, 1/4 cup of honey, 2 tablespoons of Dijon mustard, 1/2 cup of apple cider, 1/2 teaspoons of ground clove, and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper. Mix all the ingredients until well combined.
Unwrap the ham and place into the slow cooker, flat side down.
Pour the brown sugar mixture over the ham, coating it evenly. Using a basting brush, spread the glaze into the crevices of the spiral cuts.
Place the lid. Cook the ham on low setting for about 5 hours. Baste the ham with the juices every hour. It will keep it moist and flavorful.
Once fully cooked and heated through, remove the ham from the slow cooker and transfer to the serving platter. Garnish it with fresh herbs if preferred. Allow it to sit for a few minutes.
Slice and serve with your preferred side dishes and its cooking juices. Enjoy!
