Easy Wet-Bottom Shoofly Pie Ingredients

  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/2 cup of unsulphured molasses
  • 3/4 cup of boiling water
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1 cup of unbleached flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon of nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon of ginger
  • 1/8 teaspoon of ground cloves
  • 1/2 cup of brown sugar (lightly packed)
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 2 tablespoons of room-temperature butter
  • 1 9-inch pie shell (unbaked)

How to Make Shoofly Pie

Step 1:

Boil 3/4 cup of water in a pot, then add 1 teaspoon of baking soda, 1 egg yolk, and 1/2 cup molasses. Mix until well combined.

Step 2:

In a large bowl, add 1 cup of flour, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 1/8 teaspoon of ground cloves, 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1/8 teaspoon of nutmeg, 1/8 teaspoon of ginger, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 2 tablespoons of butter. Mix with your hands.

Step 3:

Pour the wet mixture into the pie shell, then sprinkle the dry mixture on top.
