This recipe guarantees a flavorful and delicious mealtime that I’m sure would make you receive compliments from your family or friends. The meatballs are already incredible themselves, but the savory gravy they’re smothered in definitely elevates the taste to a whole new level.
Step 1
Add the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, and cheese in a large mixing bowl, then mix everything until well combined. Using a small ice cream scoop, scoop the meat mixture, shape each into a ball, and place them in a wire rack on top of the baking sheet.
Step 2
Place a skillet on a stove over medium heat, then heat some oil, and add the meatballs in batches. Cook them for a few minutes until nice and brown, then set them aside on a plate, and in the same skillet add the sliced onions. Cook them for about 10 to 15 minutes or until brown and caramelized, then remove them to a plate, and set them aside.
Step 3
In a large measuring cup, pour in the broth, then add the Worcestershire sauce and liquid smoke, and whisk them together until incorporated. In the crockpot, add the meatballs spreading them in a single layer, then add the garlic cloves in between the spaces of the meatballs, and put the caramelized onions over them.
Step 4
Pour in the sauce mixture, then place the lid in the crockpot, and cook the meatballs on a high setting for about 3 to 4 hours or on a low setting for about 6 to 8 hours. After cooking for 3½ hours, season the meatballs with salt and pepper, then finish cooking for the remaining 30 minutes and garnish with parmesan cheese and fresh thyme. Serve and enjoy!
