Easy Fabric Scrap Patchwork Block Materials

For one block:

  • 8 pieces of 1″ x 5 1/2″ colored strips (in different colors)
  • 8 pieces of 1″ x 5 1/2″ background strips
  • 2 1/2″ center square

For the sides:

  • 3 pieces of 7 1/2″ background squares
  • 2 pieces of 6″ background squares

How to Make a Patchwork Block Using Fabric Scraps

Step 1:

Start by sewing one colored and one background strip together on the long side. Repeat with the remaining strips. Next, sew them in pairs with the colored sides touching. Set the seams and press each one open.

Step 2:

Trim each one into 5″ units.

Step 3:

Arrange the units and the square just like in the photo below. Sew them together to make the block. Set the seams and press flat. Trim into a 7 1/4″ block.

Step 4:

Make 8 blocks.

Step 5:

Cut the 7 1/2″ background squares in half diagonally from corner to corner to make triangles.

Step 6:

Arrange the blocks just like in the photo below.

Step 7:

Get the 6″ background squares and cut them in half diagonally from corner to corner to make triangles. Place them on the corners to make a rectangle.

Sew the blocks together in rows first diagonally. Once done, sew the rows together to make the quilt top. Trim excess.
